Rape

Dear reader,

I hope you enjoy “Lucky” as much as I did. This book was about a young girl named Alice that had gotten raped. After this tragic thing happened, it describes how her life unfolds. The theme of this book is rape. The main reason its rape is because Alice was, unfortunely, raped. The book also describes how people around her view her since the rape and how her life is after the whole thing. Since this is the theme, my genres and repetends will be tied into this somehow.

Repetend- "He released his hand from my mouth. I screamed. Quickly. Abruptly. The struggle began." (pg.13)
Repetend- " I looked at him. Into his eyes now, as if he was a human being, as if I could speak to him. Please don't rape me I said." (pg.15)

What’s Done is Done

What he did to me changed my life
I feel sorry for what I did to her
He forced my clothes off
I beat her till she listened
After he was finished with me
                                                                 I told her
 How could he be?
 Sorry                                                        Sorry
                                                                 I felt horrible after
He made me bleed
Virginity                                                    Virginity
She didn’t lie about being a virgin
I was bleeding on the cold ground
Broken inside                                            Broken inside
That I held a knife to her

Of how people will view me
I wonder how she views me now
I headed to the
                                                               Unworried about the
Police                                                       Police
I want to make sure he’s caught
                                                                She promised she wouldn’t go
Revenge is what I’m after
                                                               I hope shell forgive me
Ready to lock him up
Just going to try to forget about her Unforgettable                                         Unforgettable
Everyone knows me now
I’m going to keep it quiet
I’m going to go in the court room
                                                             What if she does tell?
And hold my head up high,
                                                              If she does tell
I’ll be known as the Victim
In people’s eyes I’m the rapist
What’s done is done                             What’s done is done
There’s no turning back                        There’s no turning back

Repetend- "He apologized again. This time he cried. Im so sorry, he said."(pg.21)

Dear Alice,

My name is Madison, which you probably know my name by now. I have been in jail for one year and twenty-six days. I know the exact time because I’m waiting for 8 years to pass and I can start my life over. I have been in jail a couple times before for theft. The jail time never fazed me until now. The guys that were in the jail cell with me beat me everyday for what I did to you. I eventually was removed and put into my own individual cell. I know I deserved everything I got from those two. I didn’t write this letter for you to feel sorry for me, that’s the least thing I would expect you to feel. In fact you probably want to kill me. I wanted to tell you how personally sorry I am. I know it must be hard to be known as the rape victim and I bet some of your friends and family took it hard also. That’s what happened to me at least. My dad wants to know where he went wrong with me. My friends haven’t came to see me once and I can’t blame them. I am really truly sorry and I hope you believe it this time. I know I said sorry right after I raped you (rape is such a nasty word) but we both know I didn’t mean it at the time. But this time its different, I promise. God I am sorry. If I could do anything to help you I would. I damaged your life and I wish I could take it back! I’m sorry that you’re known as the victim. I’m sorry for making you feel violated. I’m sorry that I took your virginity. I’m sorry that I beat you. I’m sorry for changing your whole life. I’m so sorry Alice Sebold.

                                                                                             Sincerely,
                                                                                             A sorry man

Repetend- "I was raped in the park, I said. Will you call the police?"(pg.24)
Wanted

Is convicted of rape and assault. Police think he was arrested before. Was last seen in Thorden park by the amphitheater at 12a.m. Is dark skinned, almond shaped eyes, around 17 to 19 years old, about 180 pounds and a pug nose. If seen call police right away. A reward if he is found.

I choose poem for two voices for one of my genres. I choose this because I thought it would really reflect how Alice (victim) and Madison (rapist) felt about each other. It was hard writing this poem because you have to have two people’s opinions on what happened. Then you have to decide what line they will say together. Also the poem has to make sense to the reader. I love this kind of poem.

I choose the newspaper article because I thought about how Alice felt when her name was put in the newspaper and saying she was raped. The difficulty for this piece was to decide what to put in the article.

I choose an apology letter because I wanted to show if Madison did write Alice a letter, that’s probably what it would look like. The difficulty with this was how exactly to apologize to Alice without sounding fake or too strong.

I choose the wanted poster because in about 2/3 of this book, they were looking for the man who raped Alice. There weren’t really any difficulties with this genre because in previous genres I did, the information was in it.

I learned that each genre was different in its own way. Some information would be repeated though. I liked this project because it was simple and easy to do.
